I have decided to give #MakeNine another go for the second time. My first attempt in 2018 (read about it here) really did get me into planning mode early in the year and I ended up sewing 148 items, with 14 of those for me. The greatest success last year was making 2 Ginger Jeans, and this year I want to improve my shirt making techniques including one for my husband.
My #2019MakeNine is:
1. Sinclair Patterns – Jemma Tunic
I snapped up the pattern last year when it was first released. I love striped fabric, and even have some in my stash that will be perfect for this. So it will be a navy and white striped knit and I’m thinking of some contrasting red buttons on the neckline.
2. Helen’s Closet – Blackwood Cardigan
I wasn’t quite sure about this cardigan as I do like to have buttons on my cardigans, but I think the open centre lends itself to be figure flattering and I’m in desperate need of some new colourful cardigans.
3. Megan Nielsen – Dawn Jeans
I love my Ginger Jeans but I really need a pair of straight jeans as I do find the Gingers can be a bit clingy in warm weather.
4. Life Sew Savory – Boys T-Shirt
This is a free pattern that I picked up last year. I’ll be making one for my 7 year old son, but I just need to come up with some ideas to make it “out of the ordinary”.
5. Kwik Sew 3422
Time to make another shirt for my husband. I’ve had the pattern for ages and fabric and buttons for at least a year. He has also lost quite a bit of weight over the past year and all of his shirts are swimming on him and not showing his trimmer body.
6. Grainline Studio – Archer Shirt
I’ve gone out of favour with button ups over past years as I’ve been embracing quick to make tunics. But as I want to improve my shirt making skills I might as well make one for myself too! Anyway, I sometimes find getting tunics off sometimes requires me to just about dislocate my shoulder.
7. Closet Case – Kelly Anorak
I did have intentions on making the Kelly last year, but before I knew it winter was over and it still wasn’t made. I did buy the pattern and the lining expansion pack in the 2018 Black Friday sales, but I still need to source fabric and supplies. I so need an anorak for school pickups.
8. Cloth Habit – Watson Bra
I have never sewn a bra before. A few months ago I was talking to someone how we’d never make a bra as they are so difficult. But do you know what? I’ve been thinking about it since I had breast cancer and had some of my lymph nodes removed under my arm. Ever since I haven’t been able to wear an underwire bra because it digs into my scar and isn’t very comfortable. So I’ve been restricted to beige unattractive soft cup bras. So this year I’ll give it a go.
9. Stitch Upon a Time – Bunzies
While I’m challenging myself sewing a bra, why not make some “undies” too. From what I’ve read while researching for a pattern is that they are so comfortable and quick to make. Hopefully this is the case!
I’m really excited about this years Make Nine as I’ve included some challenging items including some for my husband and son, which I love to do. I already have four of the patterns and fabric for two so there will be some waiting for pattern sales and researching of the “perfect” fabric.
I hope this is the year of shirt making, anorak making and underwear making. What about you, what are you challenging yourself with in 2019?
