This was the first year (2018) I participated in the #makenine challenge and I was very happy to have made 4 out of the 9 patterns I choose earlier in the year. Participating in this challenge did highlight to me over the course of the year my interest in particular patterns changed, and was affected by my needs as well as what supplies I had at hand.

A summary of what I made is indicated with ticks below:

Left to right, top to bottom: 1. Ginger Jeans, 2. Kelly Anorak, 3. Kwik Sew 3678 Tracksuit, 4. Kwik Sew 4144 PJs, 5. New Look 6343 Top, 6. Simplicity 1613 Top, 7. Simplicity 4032 Jacket, 8. Simplicity 2365 Shirt, 9. Vogue 8793 Top

1. Closet Case – Ginger Jeans (MADE x2)

I made the jeans twice, one in a black denim and another in indigo blue denim. The black denim jeans were entered into the Royal Adelaide Show and received a second prize which I was quite happy with.

The fit on both jeans was not perfect but I gained a lot of confidence in jean sewing techniques. And since completing them I have purchased the Closet Case Jean Making Course which should make it a bit easier.

2. Closet Case – Kelly Anorak (NOT MADE)

I didn’t make the Kelly Anorak, but I did purchase the pattern in the Black Friday sales. The main thing holding me back was sourcing all the supplies to make the Anorak. Closet Case do sell kits but they are quite expensive to send out to Australia and the USD exchange rate is not in my favour. I am still eager to make it so when it gets closer to Autumn I’ll do some more research on sourcing supplies.

3. Kwik Sew 3678 Tracksuit (NOT MADE)

Found I didn’t have a need for a tracksuit, what I have in my wardrobe is suitable.

4. Kwik Sew 4144 Pyjama Set (MADE)

I made the TShirt and crop pants from this pyjama set and entered it in the Royal Adelaide Show and it won a third prize. I have worn it quite a bit, but I find that the lace section around the pant calf is a bit restricting as it has no stretch. Next time I won’t put a cuff on them for comfort sake.

5. New Look 6343 Top (NOT MADE)

Another top that I didn’t need in my wardrobe.

6. Simplicity 1613 Knit Top (MADE)

I made view A (3/4 sleeves and crossed front) in a teal merino knit and it actually came together quite easily as I was expecting the cross over to be quite difficult. I don’t wear it very often as it is quite a dressy looking top and as I work from home it seems overkill. I once wore it for school drop-off and I was asked if I was going out for lunch, no just going home to work.

7. Simplicity 4032 Jacket (NOT MADE)

Didn’t make this jacket, but I still have plans to make it in the future, as I need some more jacket variety.

8. Simplicity 2365 Shirt (MADE x2)

This has been a favourite for a few years, and I made it up twice this year. At the start of the year I made one in a navy floral and then as part of the One Week One Pattern (#owop18) challenge in November I used some blue chambray to create another. I have five versions of this shirt and they all get high use so I’m sure I’ll make more in 2019! I also discovered that I if I used a fabric pen to mark pintucks it makes sewing this shirt up a breeze.

9. Vogue 8793 Knit Top (NOT MADE)

I didn’t make this top. I’m a bit on the fence on this one. I don’t think I’d use the zip on the collar as I’m sure my hair would just get caught in it.

I’ll be participating in #makenine2019 as I found it quite useful to think ahead on what I wanted to make during the year, even if I did change my mind.
