Why Sewing Together Feels So Good (And Why It Works)

Sewing may be something you do alone, but sewing alongside others can boost focus, creativity, and connection. Here’s why sewing together feels so good – and why it matters.

Having two sewing machines with different thread c Having two sewing machines with different thread can speed up your sewing.

I’m making a denim style jacket and that means sewing seams with regular thread. Then topstitching with much thicker topstitching thread in the needle and regular thread in the bobbin.

This also works for jeans or a project that requires different coloured thread to be used.

So I f you happen to have a spare machine, why not put it to good use and speed up your sewing by not having to constantly switch over your threads and possibly your sewing machine needle.

Are there any other times two sewing machines would be handy?

It’s all in the preparation. I’m making a denim s It’s all in the preparation.

I’m making a denim style jacket in this lovely white fabric but there are some issues to address before I can sew.

1. Frays A LOT
I’ve overlocked every single piece that wasn’t interfaced.

2. Partially see through
I’ve basted a layer of white fabric underneath every piece that isn’t interfaced. This is the interlining and will be treated as one as I sew it up.

In the case of this front yoke and the centre front that have a facing, I first sewed the white interlining to my jacket fabric, right sides together. Then turned and pressed wrong side’s together to have a clean finish.
