Moving Evernote Notes to Google Drive: One Place for My Sewing Notes

I moved all my Evernote notes to Google Drive and now have a single, searchable spot. I share how I did it so you can too.

Over the weekend, I ran my first co-sewing session Over the weekend, I ran my first co-sewing session over Zoom.

We both brought our own projects, chatted a bit, sewed a bit, and settled into a lovely rhythm.

There's something special about spending time with other sewists, talking about sewing, and actually sewing, without anyone having to leave home or pack up our gear.

In two hours, we both made real progress. And I learnt that marks from air erasable pens disappear very quickly on humid days 😂

The next co-sewing session is on Friday, 13th March, 10am - 12pm (ACDT, Adelaide time).

If you’d like some gentle accountability and focused sewing time, you’re very welcome to join me. Link in the bio.

A worn-out collar does not mean the shirt goes in A worn-out collar does not mean the shirt goes in the bin; it gets a new collar. Right on top of the existing one.

Took 5 years of regular wear to get to this stage, and if it happens again and the shirt looks otherwise OK, I can unpick this one and put on a new one.

(Fabric was a custom printed one from @spoonflower, and it's their cotton poplin.)

Even for just a short time, being in the same space as other sewists (virtually or in person) can:

I’ve written more about why sewing together feels so good and how it works in my latest blog post: [Why Sewing Together Feels So Good (And Why It Works)].

Hi there — it’s so lovely to meet you and connect Hi there — it’s so lovely to meet you and connect with you. 🧵

I’m Carmen (named after my parents’ travel agent, not the opera).

The most important thing you need to know about me is that I love to sew.

I'm here to help home sewists sew more, so they can live their best creative life. ✂️

I learnt to sew in high school and from my maternal Grandma. My Mum sewed a bit, though she preferred hand embroidery.

Over the years, I’ve made christening gowns, couture and quilted jackets, jeans, pants, t-shirts, tops, shirts, stuffed toys, quilts, wall hangings - and so much more. The list keeps growing.

For a few years, I ran a handmade bag-making business, @sapphorium, selling at local markets and shipping to Australia, the US, Canada & UK. I loved it - but the amount of sewing wasn't sustainable for my body, so I learnt the importance of pacing myself.

Before all this, I worked as a computer programmer for over 20 years, specialising in web development in Java. My husband (a former colleague) liked to introduce us as, “I’m in hardware, she’s in software.”

We have a teenage son and a rescue beagle mix, Spot, who loves food, walks, people, and sleeping about 18 hours a day. 🐶

Life has thrown me some curveballs, including redundancy and a breast cancer diagnosis in my thirties. It forced me to look at what truly mattered: time with my son, and building a life that made room for sewing in a meaningful way.

(There is a photo of me with a weird contraption on my head - that's a cold cap that would freeze my head in an attempt to keep the hair on my head. It was just like a really bad ice cream headache for about 10 minutes before my head went completely numb - not a good sensation. It did help, and I lost only a third of my hair. I even ended up on the local TV news for the cold cap funding.)

If you’re here because you love sewing too — welcome.

Follow along for tips, encouragement, and space to sew more.
