Sewing tools. They are designed to help sewing feel easier, give more professional results and make sewing more enjoyable.
Over my many, many years of sewing, I have amassed quite a collection (and I have to admit, it keeps growing). Some are designed specifically for sewing, and others are more generic and not meant for sewing at all.
There’s nothing like finding a tool that does the job really well. It’s worth the investment. It’s worth finding storage space for it when not in use. It’s worth sharing with others. So here is my list of a few of my favourites.
Basic Tools – Awl

I really do love my awl, and I use it a lot. It’s great for making holes for jeans buttons or rivets, but I use it more often to guide fabric under the sewing machine needle, keeping my fingers safely out of the way.

Pins & Needles – Clover Silk Pins

These are my favourite pins. They’re sharp, fine and slide easily through any fabric. The glass heads also make them easy to grab when needed.
I always have a few spare packets just in case they get bent, which these tend to do.

Rulers – 15cm Metal Ruler

I love this little ruler, and have a few of them in my sewing space. They’re easy to read and perfect for small measurements like seam and hem allowances.

Cutting Tools – Martelli Snip Scissors

These little snips are my constant companion, and I have a set by my sewing machine and another by the overlocker/serger. My machines doesn’t cut threads automatically, so I use these a lot.
The blade has a slight curve, which enables you to cut really close, so there are no little thread whiskers left behind.

Pressing Tools – Sleeve Roll

Pressing each seam is so important to create a professional result. I use my sleeve roll when I need to press smaller or enclosed areas like a sleeve.
